Description Adafruit FTDI Friend + extras
This is the FTDI Friend from Adafruit. The FTDI Friend provides the ability to easily transfer serial data from a microcontroller to a computer . It is a tweaked FTDI FT232RL chip adapter. It has some nice features. For example, there are 4 signal lines for sending data back and forth. But you can also change the signal and power lines to 3.3V or 5V.
The 6th pin is RTS (since Arduino IDE v18 this works perfectly when uploading to Arduinos). The power wire is +5V, the signal levels are 3.3V.
A set of extra long headers is included as standard. You can use these to connect the FTDI Friend to a Breadboard. The board also has blinkies, 2 red & green LEDs that pulse when a serial is sent or received . The USB port on the board is a mini-B type port.
