Today (24-6-2019) the Raspberry Pi Foundation announced a new board, namely the Raspberry Pi 4 model B.
Raspberry Pi even claims that this board can deliver PC-like performance, while retaining the hackability of the computing board.
The new Pi 4B is up to 1.5GHz thanks to its Broadcom BCM2711, Quad core Cortex-A72 (ARM v8) 64-bit SoC @ 1.5GHz 3 times as powerful like the Pi 3.
In addition, it is now also possible for the first time to choose how much RAM you want. Options are:
The Raspberry Pi 3 came with only 1GB of RAM, which is very little compared to today's computers and smartphones.
It is therefore very nice that you are now 4x as much RAM can choose.
You will now also find not 1 but 2 HDMI ports on the board. These are Micro HDMI ports with which you two 4K monitors you can connect to.
Many Raspberry Pi 3 users wanted to work with 2 monitors at the same time, so it is good to see that the Raspberry Pi Foundation has listened to the feedback.
Some interesting points are:
Also, instead of a USB micro-B, you’ll now find a USB-C port for power. This supports an additional 500mA of current, so there’s a full 1.2A for downstream USB devices, even under heavy CPU load.
