This industrial USB RS232 RS485 TTL converter is designed to enable different serial buses to communicate with each other. You can convert data between USB, RS232, RS485, and TTL (UART). Useful for servicing, testing, and integration into industrial controls, measurement setups, and projects where a stable serial connection is required.
The converter is isolated and features multiple layers of protection. It has power supply isolation and digital isolation on board. This reduces the risk of interference caused by noise, ground loops, or voltage spikes. It also features TVS protection against surge voltage and ESD, plus a self-resetting fuse and protection diodes for added security. This makes it more suitable for “real” workshops and cabinets than simple USB-to-serial cables.
For USB, the module uses an original FT232RL chip. This ensures good compatibility and a stable connection. The data speed ranges from 300 to 921,600 bps (RS232 to RS232 up to 600,000 bps). The housing is made of aluminum and is sturdy enough for daily use.
The connections are logically divided into two groups. Group A has USB-B, RS232 (DB9 male), and TTL (screw terminal). Group B has RS485 (screw terminal), RS232 (DB9 male), and TTL (screw terminal). Please note: terminals within the same group do not communicate with each other. Also, you cannot transmit from both sides simultaneously. Simultaneous reception is possible. For RS485, the direction is automatically controlled by the hardware. There are also LEDs for power and TX/RX, so you can quickly see if there is traffic.
For RS485, you can work point-to-multipoint up to 32 nodes. For 16 nodes or more, repeaters are recommended. There is room to place a 120 ohm termination resistor for RS485, if you need one at the beginning/end of the bus.
