The RS485 Pi is a communications board that supports the RS-485 serial protocol.
The RS-485 port is connected to the UART port on the Raspberry Pi using an SN65HVD72 interface. The SN65HVD72 IC converts the 3.3V UART signals to RS-485 voltages allowing communication between devices. The RS-485 port can be accessed via the DB9 port or solder points on the PCB.
The RS485 Pi has protection against surges. This is in the form of a TVS diode and two 10 ohm Pulse-Proof Thick-Film resistors.
Please note, you can use one RS485 Pi board per Raspberry Pi. When stacking the RS485 Pi with other expansion boards, it should go on top. This is because of the height of the DB9 connector.
A 120 ohm resistor is supplied with the RS485 Pi. This is required when the RS-485 is at the end of the RS-485 bus.
