The Sharp IR distance sensor is a top choice for many projects that require accurate distance measurements. This sensor is an economical alternative to sonar rangefinders. It performs much better than other IR options. Connecting to microcontrollers is easy. The single analog output connects to an analog-to-digital converter. This allows you to measure distances. Or you can connect it to a comparator for threshold detection. The range is between approximately 10 cm and 80 cm. A graph shows the relationship between distance and output voltage.
The GP2Y0A21 uses a 3-pin JST connector. This connects to our 3-pin JST cable for Sharp distance sensors (not included). Alternatively, you can solder three wires directly to the sensor. Looking from the back, the three connections from left to right are power, ground, and output signal.
