The Arduino CNC Shield is an essential component for CNC projects. It makes getting started with such projects easy and fast, often within a few hours. This shield uses open-source firmware on an Arduino to control four stepper motors. These motors are controlled by four A4988 stepper motor drivers. It is important to note that the CNC Shield PCB you receive will be red. Please note that the Crowduino and A4988 stepper motor drivers in the images are not included.
This shield is compatible with GRBL 0.8c, an open-source firmware that converts G-code commands into stepper motor signals. It supports four axes: X, Y, Z, and A. The A axis can duplicate X, Y, Z or function as a full 4th axis with custom firmware. Each axis has two end stops, for a total of six. Additional features include support for spindle activation and direction, and coolant activation.
The CNC Shield offers the flexibility to use different Pololu compatible stepper motor drivers, such as A4988 and DRV8825. Jumpers on the shield allow you to adjust the micro-step settings for the drivers. The compact design makes it easy to integrate the shield into any project. Stepper motors can be connected via 4-pin Molex connectors. The shield operates on 12-36V DC, but pay attention to the voltage when powering the board.
