The A4988 Stepper Motor Driver Module is an advanced device designed for driving bipolar stepper motors. This module provides the ability to operate in various step modes. Full, Half, 1/4, 1/8 and 1/16, allowing users to precisely control the movement of the motor. With an output power reaching 35V and ±2A, the A4988 supports a wide range of stepper motors. A notable feature is the built-in translator, which simplifies implementation. A single pulse on the STEP input can produce micro-stepping movement of the motor. This is without the need for complex control schemes or frequency management.
The module automatically selects the optimal current draw mode, Slow or Mixed, for efficient performance. In Mixed mode, the A4988 combines fast and slow draw to minimize noise, increase stepping accuracy, and reduce power consumption. In addition, internal synchronous rectification ensures more efficient power usage during PWM control. The A4988 also protects itself from various risks with features such as thermal shutdown, undervoltage lockout, and overcurrent protection, enhancing durability and reliability.
