Most microcontrollers & Arduino's are 5V devices. Most modern sensors, displays and accessories are all 3.3V. It is therefore wise to perform a conversion to protect the 3.3V device from 5V. That is why Adafruit has developed this 4 channel level converter. This board combines the ease of use of the bidirectional TXB0108 with I2C compatibility. This breakout has 4 BSS138 FET's with 10K pullups. It works with 1.8V on the low side up to 10V on the high side. The 10K pull up resistors make the interface a bit slower than using a TXB0108 or 74LVC245. So be aware of this if you need high speed. The module is not suitable for controlling the high side. It is for logic level conversion only.
Although the module is designed for use with I2C, it will also work with TTL serial, slow <2MHz SPI and any other digital interface. Both unidirectional and bidirectional. It comes on an assembled and tested PCB. There are 4 fully bidirectional converter lines and 2 6-pin header connections. The headers are included and can be soldered to the board for use with a breadboard.
