There are currently 3 Raspberry Pi Picos available. The Pico, the Pico H and the Pico W. The Pico was released first, this is the cheapest version and comes without headers as standard. The Pico H is the same as the Pico, but has soldered pin headers. The Pico W comes without soldered headers, but does come with 2.4 GHz 802.11n wireless LAN. This makes it ideal for IoT projects.

Raspberry Pi RP2040

The Raspberry Pi RP2040 is the brain of the Raspberry Pi Pico family. It is small and offers flexible I/O. For advanced and professional users there is a full C/C++ SDK, a GCC based toolchain and Visual Studio Code integration. For hobbyists and beginners it is also possible to use MicroPython. With two fast cores, lots of on-chip RAM and a TensorFlow Lite port the RP2040 is ideal for Micro Machine Learning.

Raspberry Pi Pico Accessories

For the Raspberry Pi Pico microcontroller boards there are different accessories than for the mini computers. One of the most important is a Breadboard. When you have a Pico H or when you have soldered headers on the Pico (W) you can place it on a Breadboard. A Breadboard is a prototyping board that you do not have to solder on. This allows you to connect all kinds of components such as LEDs, sensors, motors and more to the Pico. When you buy a basic kit you can make all kinds of projects and experiment. To connect all the components on the Breadboard to the Pico you also need Jumper Wires. In addition to parts, most kits also contain instructions. These instructions explain step by step how to connect everything to the Pico. Then it explains how to program the Pico to create different applications with the same parts.
