The Raspberry Pi foundation released a new product today (2 Nov 2020). Namely the Raspberry Pi 400 ! This new Raspberry Pi is a desktop computer that is built into a keyboard. You often see that the computer is built into a monitor, but in a keyboard is really new. The new desktop computer is comparable to the Raspberry Pi 4 4GB that was released last year.

The Raspberry Pi 400 is a plug and play desktop computer. All you need to do is connect a monitor and mouse and you have a working desktop.

Raspberry Pi has made the Pi 400 so that it is powerful enough to run virtually all standard computer programs. This means that you do not need to buy a large computer. In addition, the Raspberry Pi 400 is much cheaper.

Connections & connectivity

The Raspberry Pi 400 has all the connections on the back of the keyboard. The new pi comes with the following connections:

Micro SD card slot 1X
Ethernet port 1X
USB-C for power 1X
USB 3.0 2X
USB 2.0 1X
Micro HDMI 2X
GPIO pins 40X

It also has a Bluetooth 5.0 chip, and a WIFI chip. The micro-HDMI ports support 4K video.

The keyboard comes in 6 different layouts, namely:

Spanish
French
Italian
German
UK
US

It is likely that more classifications will be added over time.

The Raspberry Pi 400 runs on the same Broadcom as the Pi 4, only the Pi 4 comes out at 1.GHz and the Pi 400 at 1.8 GHz. For now, the Pi has 4 GB of RAM, but we may see a 2 GB and an 8 GB variant appear in the future.

For this new Pi you pay separately about 87 euros. However, you usually buy the Raspberry Pi singleboard computer in a kit because it is handy if there is a power cable, HDMI cable and an SD card. And then you come out around 115 euros.

Another great device for only 80 euros that could replace your laptop or desktop. It doesn't cost too much and is therefore a perfect gift for the holidays.
