Original Arduino VS Clone

If you've done a bit of searching on the internet you may have noticed that there are two types   Arduino's   are. The Originile from Italy and clones. These two types each have their own price category.
The original is around €23.95 and the clone is about half that price. Despite the boards looking similar there are real differences.

The original board is a product of   Arduino and is produced in Italy.
The cheap version is a counterfeit variant. These are generally produced in Asia.

Now you may be wondering, “but are these from Asia allowed to be sold?” The answer is generally yes, this is allowed.
As long as the Arduino logo and the Arduino text are not on the board, you can just buy it. Arduino is namely   Open Source .
If the Arduino Logo and/or name are on a counterfeit board, the product is fake. Buying these products is therefore punishable. So pay close attention when buying a counterfeit Arduino to avoid a fine.

Price difference

But why is the Original Arduino Uno more expensive than the counterfeit?
As can be seen in the table above, the build quality of the original board is higher than the fake. A real Uno therefore often lasts longer than a cheap clone.
In addition, Arduino does much more than just produce.
The money raised by the Arduino boards goes to:

  • Developing new open-source hardware
  • The documentation
  • CE/FCC certification
  • carbon offset
  • Quality control
  • Community management
  • Publish tutorials
  • Donations to other open source projects
  • hosting/maintaining website and forum (millions of users!)

Conclusion

Both the original and the replica Arduino boards will work.
It is clear that a real Arduino Uno is much better made and will last longer than a fake.
In our webshop you will not find Arduino clones. We have chosen to sell only the real Arduino boards because we want to guarantee quality.
We also think it is important to support Arduino developments.
