The Adafruit Mono 2.5W Class D Audio Amplifier - PAM8302 is a powerful yet compact device. This amplifier delivers up to 2.5 watts of power to speakers with an impedance of 4-8 ohms. The amplifier uses a class D controller that operates at a voltage of 2.0V to 5.5VDC. Due to the class D technology, the amplifier is very efficient. It has an efficiency of over 90% when driving an 8Ω speaker with more than half a watt. This makes it ideal for portable and battery powered projects. The amplifier has built-in thermal and overcurrent protection, so it hardly gets warm. The volume trim potentiometer allows you to adjust the volume from the default 24dB of gain. This amplifier is a great upgrade for basic "LM386" amplifiers.
The A+ and A- inputs of the amplifier go through 1.0uF capacitors, making them fully 'differential'. If you don't have differential outputs, simply connect the Audio- pin to ground. The output is 'Bridge Tied', meaning that the outputs are connected directly to the speaker pins. With no connection to ground. The output is a high frequency 250KHz PWM which is averaged out by the speaker. This means that the high frequencies are not audible. This means that you cannot connect the output to another amplifier, it must drive the speakers directly.
The amp comes fully assembled and tested on a breakout board. It also comes with a header to plug it into a breadboard. You also get a 3.5mm screw terminal block so you can easily connect and disconnect your speaker. You'll be ready to rock in 15 minutes! Speaker not included; use a speaker with an impedance of 4 ohms or higher.
